Past Events - 2008 - Spring Luncheons

    March Luncheon

Our March 27, 2008 Luncheon with guest speaker Peggy Korsmo-Kennon, Past WCHS Executive Director (1979-1985)

Peggy Korsmo-Kennon is the Program Director for Bell Museum of Natural History. Peggy is charged with creating a cutting edge plan for the museum's exhibitions, services, and educational programs. In addition, she is providing leadership and oversight for the project to develop a new facility for the museum located adjacent to the St. Paul Campus of the University of Minnesota. Before joining the Bell Museum's management team, she was Executive Director for Minnesota Center for Book Arts. Peggy was instrumental in helping the organization grow and become a partner in Open Book, the nation's first facility dedicated to the literary and book arts.

We enjoyed listening to Peggy talk about her experiences at WCHS and the Bell Museum.

    April Luncheon

Our April 24, 2008 Luncheon with guest speaker Barbara Britain, Film Maker
Barbara talked about her documentary film Return to Shetek: The Courage of the Fool Soldiers.
The story of a group of white settlers taken hostage after the battle at Lake Shetek in 1862. One of the captives was our own Lilly Everett.

    May Luncheon

Susan Davis Price talked about Victorian Gardens at our May Luncheon. Susan talked about how the people living in the Victorian era would gather flowers from the woods and fields and then plant them around their houses. People could not just “run to Bachman’s Nursery and pick up what they needed.” They had to work hard to plan out their garden and maintain it every year.
